A little while ago my wife and I were watching Australian Survivor, contestants certainly do have an advantage if they are of a certain fitness level in the show. Based on one of the contestants’ physiques I bet my wife she did Reformer Pilates, she was quite unsure how I could tell. For me it was easy, the lady in question did have a fantastic physique but it was different, not super skinny certainly no ‘thigh gap’. What she did have was an all-round comprehensive tone, not just developed at the front and at the back of the legs which often happens now days with too many squats and deadlifts. You rarely see a comprehensive tone all around the legs and to achieve that level of all round tone absolutely nothing beats the Reformer.
So was I right…?
100%, we jumped on her social profile and every other post was her on a Reformer, plus loads of other sports but she clearly loved her Reformer.
So what has this got to do with our Burn class…?
Aesthetics mostly, comprehensive strength and tone from every angle, and the Reformer does a banging job of that. Our Burn class is all about specific results that you can see in the mirror making you strong all over. There is not a big emphasis on stretching, balance or perfect form, barely any really but that’s not the point. Yeah, the class sometimes steers away from the core Reformer principles at times to a certain extent. But what it does not steer away from is the comprehensive full body workout that the Reformer provides targeting every possible muscle in the body from every possible angle. The Burn element comes from the fact that we take the very best exercises that target the muscles straight away (not those ‘wishie washie’ ones you see on Instagram that just look cool, and that’s about it) then train them to the point of fatigue…then a little bit more until it…burns
So what to expect in a Burn class…?
The exercises are fun and simple, but they are the ones that target muscles straight away so you can instantly feel the BURN and get the very best results. We don’t include too many balance exercises (those are great BTW), but they have a tendency to slow the class down and become a bit too technical. The class is not meant to be technical for the attendee but rather faster moving and simple so absolutely anyone can attend from the beginner to the advanced. The exercises are simple so good form is easier to achieve, and when good form is achieved better results follow. I have an extensive Personal Training background fully understanding the body mechanics, so when we write these plans we know what the end results will be. Heavier springs are utilised so strength is greatly increased but because of the ‘2 way’ resistance the Reformer offers the core Pilates principles kick in ensuring that all round comprehensive strength and tone is achieved.
So expect burn, expect to sweat and expect to get results. We don’t apologise for any discomfort because the clue of what to expect is in the title.
